The word translate comes from Latin. In its origin, it means to take beyond, to transfer, to disseminate. This is my idea of translation. When I translate, I am the person who helps one to go further, and who transfers knowledge.
That is how I see translation: like an act of love for others. For me, an act of accessibility. I can help those who do not understand that terminology or do not speak that language, to read a text, watch a video, or just listen, as if that piece was made exclusively for him or her.
This is how I am. I’ve always sought to make people´s lives a little bit better. I could be a lawyer, doctor, and so many other things, but I chose to be a translator because, perhaps, this profession chose me first.
With a BA degree in Communications with a specialization in Advertising, a BA degree in Translation and Interpreting, and a BA degree in English and Portuguese Languages, I am an English and Spanish-to-Portuguese translator with over 40 years of experience.
My journey as a translator is intertwined with my role as an English, Portuguese, and technology teacher for teenagers, adults, and foreigners.
I regularly participate in lectures, trade fairs, and national and international events related to my fields of expertise and translation, organized by industry entities such as ABRATES, Autónoma Academy-Portugal, Mind the Sec, Ominiscien, PROFT, SINTRA, TEDx, Translators 101, USP, among others.
I am also a teacher for the Technology Translation module (English and Spanish) in the ¡QuijoTe! course.
My most recent challenge was speaking at two specialized translation conferences on the topics: “AI and the World of Translation” and “Security: There’s Much More Than What You See Behind the Screens.”
